Elder Stubbs’ Green Fingered Guide

with No Comments

With spring on the way, now is a great time to start looking forward and plan the year ahead. This is especially true if you have a garden in your life.

Growing produce is central to life at Elder Stubbs, one of Restore’s recovery groups, based at an allotment site in East Oxford.

Planning, routine, and joy at the new growth, all accompany the development of new skills at Elder Stubbs. The environment is relaxed, refreshing and the sense of community is supportive and reassuring.

The group had over 50 members last year – individuals who experienced mental ill health. Members spend a-day-a-week at the recovery group for up to two years, and are supported towards better mental health.

Every garden differs, but even a window box or herb garden can be rewarding, so the Elder Stubbs year planner (pictured) may be a useful guide or inspiration for any Restore supporter. Planning individual small steps is all part of rewarding long term growth.

By spending time together, working with others to grow produce, cook, and sell items in the shop, people at Restore recovery groups gain skills and confidence. Many members leave Restore feeling better able to live independently and happily.
